A Clincial Review of 58 Cases of Varicose Veins

Abstract
A total of 58 patients with varicose veins at the Dept. of Surgery of Seoul National University Hospital and National Medical Canter during 5 years were studied.
Fellowing results were obtained:
1. Out of 58 patients, the site of prominent was both lower extremities in 32, right lower in 18 and left lower in 8,
2. The age incidence ranged from 31 to 40 and sex ratio was equal in number (29 males and 29 females).
3. The majority of patients received operation within 5 years after onset of disease, one of which received 30 years after.
4. Occuptions of patients were house-wife 29, labor 8, farmer 7, soldier 4, student 3, teacher 2, barber 2, and one unknown.
5. Of 26 patients operated on, the body weight were over the limit in 73.1% (8 males and 11 females).
6. In all patients, tortuous dilatations were noticed, among which 15 were associated with pain in the calf muscles, 8 with swelling of the of the leg, 3 with skin eczema, 2 with ulcerations, one with cramp of calf muscle, one with skin pigmentation with ulceration.
7. Of 58 patients, 31 were treated conseratively and 26 were treated with radical vein stripping.
8. The average time of hospitalization was 4.5 days and there were no reccurrence during one year after operation.
